One of the most difficult times to stay healthy is during the holidays. Having a workout plan can help you stay in the habit of doing your exercise routine. It can be tricky to stay focused when the food is yummier and cuddle weather is so inviting. It's just so easy to make excuses. Especially with all the work, planning, parties, shopping, travel, and festivities.
The new year however, is just around the corner. All the unhealthy habits will add up. It is therefore so important to ensure you maintain your Pilates workout plan throughout this time for several reasons, and the most important is your mood. Maintaining a routine will leave you feeling fulfilled and make your holiday even more exciting and rewarding.
Here are some tips and tricks to ensure you’re interested and excited to squeeze in that workout and receive the amazing rewards.
Getting an early head start when everyone is in bed will definitely work to your advantage (or as early in the day that's possible for you). Before anyone wakes up it's easier to immerse yourself wholly into your Pilates routine. Not to mention that this will set the tone for your day, Making you feel accomplished and in a great mood throughout the day. Setting you up for success in all other things.
HAVING THE RIGHT MINDSET.
Being intentional with your fitness goals from the start will always keep you on track. It is so easy to waiver and fall off from your Pilates workout plan. However, when you prepare your mind for what is to come without compromise. Often you’ll find yourself being intentional in starting. It's so important to just start. Make it difficult to come up with excuses. Just do it. Motivation comes when you start.
MAKE A PILATES SCHEDULE.
Always plan your Pilates routine. Break it down into manageable weekly goals. Ensure they align your routine, with your travel and holiday plans. Be proactive in planning every bit of your day to find space for the important things. Use the days you can’t workout as your rest days and enjoy them fully.
You could also spread your Pilates routine throughout the day. Breaking down certain Pilates exercises depending on intensity can help you squeeze more in when time is a limiting factor.
GET A PILATES COACH/ ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER.
It can be so easy to opt out of things if no one is holding you accountable. It's even harder to convince yourself to wake up early and do your routine. Having a coach/ partner to motivate and excite you as you go about your routine is a great plus. Meeting up with someone a couple of times a week will definitely push you to do more and keep up with your workout plan.
MAKE IT A FAMILY ACTIVITY/ JOIN A PILATES CLASS
Get more people involved in your Pilates routine. What makes good things great is doing them with people you love. This could even become a family tradition. Having more people involved also means more accountability partners and a steady workout throughout the holiday.
KEEP IT SHORT & SWEATY.
Get more out of your Pilates routine by incorporating HIIT. This will ensure you hit all the right spots in minimal time Leaving the rest of the day up for grabs.
LIMIT THE USE OF PILATES EQUIPMENT.
Eliminating the use of equipment creates a lot of flexibility. You can do it in a hotel room, your mom's house, your friend's sitting room, just anywhere really. This also means you can decide to do Pilates on impulse without worrying about needing one thing or the other.
KEEP EVALUATING YOUR PILATES ROUTINE.
What is the goal of your Pilates workout plan? Which areas do you want to focus on? Asking these questions on a regular basis will help you with planning and results. You'll also be getting the most from your Pilates routine.
This also helps create a sense of variety in your routine. Shaking things up a little and keeping you excited for your next workout.
DO YOUR FAVORITE PILATES EXERCISES.
If you’re finding it difficult to follow a Pilates routine you found online or your regular routing. Try basing your holiday routine on Pilates exercises you actually like. This way you’ll be looking up to your new routine. As soon as you get the momentum going, try including the more complex exercises.
Whenever you achieve a particularly hard target in your Pilates routine. Treat yourself. This will leave you feeling great. Get a new Pilates outfit or accessory. As an added bonus, you’ll now get motivated to do your routine with the new gear. Because who doesn’t love receiving rewards?
GET ENOUGH SLEEP.
Make sure you get at least seven to eight hours of sleep. This is a particularly busy time of the year. The stress can get to you. Having a full night's rest will help you keep your energy levels up and ensure you’re excited for the next challenge.
USE PILATES AS AN ESCAPE/ STRESS RELIEVER.
Although this is the time of the year we look forward to the most. It can be a bit overwhelming. There is so much going on and a lot of mental stimulation. Some me time might be just what you need. Set out a few minutes a day to just reconnect with yourself and your body. Forget about all the hustle and bustle and use Pilates to nurture your body and mind.
